Kundalini stuck in the head. It’s one of the more common kundalini awakening symptoms. It’s a strange sensation that can range from mild to intense. Perhaps you’ve had a spiritual awakening, went to a spiritual retreat, or tried a spiritual exercise and your kundalini rose. Instead of breaking through the crown it seems stuck in the head. I experienced this myself after an intense kundalini awakening. I fully healed and since then I’ve been sharing with others what works and what doesn’t. People with similar experiences write to me from all over the world, and I’ve been keeping track of their success stories too. Kundalini is a process that has its own way and timing, but there are many things you can do to make it easier. Below I’m sharing a couple of ways that can help reduce kundalini stuck in the head:
1) Get out of your head and into your body. Spend less time meditating, reading, thinking, playing on the internet. Spend more of your time being embodied. Engage in whole-body tasks like walking in nature, cooking, or exercising. Many people with kundalini issues continue to do spiritual work thinking that the energy will break through the crown. For many, however, the energy just continues to pool in the head. I’ve actually that found by grounding my energy the pressure released. After the pressure releases kundalini can spontaneously break through as appropriate.
2) Do NOT sleep with your head facing North. Of course, it depends what hemisphere you live in. When you lay down at night to sleep, your pulse rate drops to prevent too much blood from going into your brain. If you live in the northern hemisphere and sleep with your head facing north, the magnetic forces of the Earth will pool more energy in the head. That’s the last thing a person with kundalini stuck in the head needs! If you want to learn more about the best direction to sleep in, check out this article from yogi Sadhguru here.
3) Connect with Earth and Sun Energies. Kundalini awakening is a good time to purify the body with Earth and Sun energy. Some yogic traditions and Taoists teach the importance of doing this before spiritual awakening. Because the nature of the times we live in, we spend less time grounding and purifying the body before spiritual awakening. This can create a “split” between the upper chakras and lower chakras, and the rising meridians and grounding meridians. This split is then intensified when more energy runs up the spine and into the higher chakras during spiritual awakening. In my book How To Heal Energy Head Pressure I share Taoist, QiGong, yoga, shamanic and even physics based exercises that clear, tone, and balance the lower chakras and grounding meridians. Clearing the body of old cellular imprints allows the new awakened energy space to anchor in.
4) Use Discernment with Subtle Energy Treatments. I found that during my experience with kundalini awakening, I had to use the utmost of discernment when working with spiritual teachers. Some very gifted teachers, who I know to have high levels of consciousness, gave me suggestions that actually set me back. They were well-intentioned but kundalini is a very unique experience. Every healer I connected with wanted to offer distance healing, reiki, energy transfer, etc. 90% of the time the energy treatment made more energy pool in my head. I actually found it better to work from the body level up during my kundalini awakening. I focused on restoring my nervous system energy to parasympathetic dominance, purifying my body from negative cellular imprints, and grounding.
5) Haikun’s Cave. Thanks to Dao Bums I was introduced to this contemplation that helps one learn how to “sink” energy, or move energy down the body. It is important to not force anything, and to not do this exercise mentally. I had the best results when I learned to gently feel my way through this exercise. The contemplation comes from the book Hakuin’s Precious Mirror Cave. You can find an excerpt with the exercise here. The exercise is described in the section starting with, “Imagine a lump of soft butter….”
6) Lighten up your eating. Today it seems the popular spiritual advice is to eat whatever you want whenever you want. During a transformation such as kundalini awakening it is beneficial to be mindful of what you eat. The energy required for your body to keep up with the new energies is immense. It is like asking your body to run a marathon over and over again. If you are called to eat dense foods such as junk food, meat, and dairy your body is probably trying to ground. I suggest practicing the grounding exercises on this page and in my book. When you restore your connection to Earth energy it will be easier to lighten up your eating. As you lighten up your eating old energetic debris will leave quickly. This will help your body to create a channel for grounding and you will feel better.
During my ten year odyssey with kundalini awakening, I discovered what worked and what didn’t for my kundalini syndrome. I hope that some of the tips in this post are helpful for clearing kundalini stuck in the head.
